SANDSTONE CHILD LEARNING CENTRE
SUMMER NEWSLETTER – 2013
School holidays are upon us for our school age children a week in advance. On Thursday, most schools are opening at the regular time and closing at 12 Noon. We can organize drop off and pick up, but if your child’s school has a completely different schedule that day, then it might not be possible for us to arrange transportation on Thursday.
As always, whenever the schools are closed and our school age program operates full time, we arrange a field trip for the children. They usually leave the facility around 9.30 AM unless otherwise stated in the Field Trip Permission Form. Please make sure that you bring your children in early enough for them to join field trips. If you bring your children in late and see that their group has already left the daycare for a field trip, then we will not be able to keep your children with another group. .
The reason is that according to our licensing regulations we are required to maintain not only staff child ratios, but also group sizes. We can have mixed groups only before 8.30 AM and after 4.30 PM. This goes for all the groups. Whenever weather permits we take children out on walks or to the neighborhood parks. So it is your responsibility to make sure that you bring your child in at least by 9.30 AM. Also make sure that your child has weather appropriate outdoor wear as well as sunscreen lotion, hat and outdoor shoes (no open- toed sandals). It is also important that parents of ECS and School Age children to read notices posted by your child’s home room staff regarding requirements for each trip and read and sign the Field Trip Permission form for the next day. If your child is going to be absent, please let the staff know.
If your child brings in toys and books from home, please be aware that our staff will not be responsible if they get lost, broken or misplaced. If you have any toys that your child has lost interest in, we could use them. We are interested in games and puzzles, construction toys, outdoor toys like tricycles, wagons, dump trucks, play house, picnic table, work bench, easel, etc, all in good condition, of course. We would also appreciate donations of adult clothing for our dress-up centers, including uniforms, hats, party wear, costumes, ethnic wear, music and children’s books including those in Chinese, French, Spanish and other languages.
Some dates to remember:
Super Stampede Party and ‘Dress Western Day’ at the center on Thursday, July 11, ‘13 from 5 to 6.30 PM. All of you are cordially invited to join us.
Daycare will remain closed on Monday, July 1st 2013 for Canada Day and Monday, August 5, 2013 for Heritage Day.
Heritage Day Multicultural Pot-luck supper on Friday, August 9th.
We are planning a flood relief fund raising activity sometime next month. Will keep you informed. If any of you were affected by the floods and need assistance, please let me know.
Thank you and have a great summer!
